GM’s Henderson offers a ray of hope for Sky, Solstice

There appears to be a slight glimmer of hope for fans of the Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice. CEO Fritz Henderson said that General Motors would be willing to sell its Wilmington, Del., plant, which builds the Sky and the Solstice--two eye-catching performance cars--if a buyer specifically wanted those niche products, similar to what Chrysler offered with its Dodge Viper business.

CAR INSURANCE premiums have plunged at a record rate of 12% year-on-year amid a tougher clampdown to combat bogus motor accident claims which add to the costs of everyone's policies. The typical quote for annual comprehensive car insurance cover was £568 in October, marking a 4.5% drop on July and a 12.4% fall on a year ago, according to the latest AA Insurance premium index, which takes the average of the five cheapest quotes on the market. This is the biggest annual slide that the AA has on its records, which go back to 1994, and marks a sharp turnaround for motorists following a period of strong increases, with premiums rising by more than 40% just two years ago.

A SO-CALLED ‘super salesman’ is calling time on his career after notching up an incredible 100,000 car sales over half a century. Ken Searle, who works for Benfield Motor Group in the North East, started with British Leyland before moving to a new team selling Datsun cars when they first arrived in Britain. A proud Ken said: “I’ve loved every minute of my career and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
