With Alonso on pole, two Red Bulls and Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes jus behind and rain likely, Silverstone 2012 could be interesting. Qualifying for the 2012 British Grand Prix was a shambles with more rain than the average July sees all month. But through it all there were some great drives, not least of which was Alonso putting his Ferrari on pole, Webber taking second in his adopted home Grand Prix and the King of the rain – Michael Schumacher – in third.

Besides the freshened look, the big news is that Ford's full-size SUV now comes only with the F Series' 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine like its recently announced Lincoln Navigator sibling. At about 370 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, the twin-turbo V6 delivers more power than Ford's ancient 5.4-liter V8 (310 hp, 365 lb ft).

A Californian woman is thought to be the first ever motorist to receive a ticket for driving while wearing ‘Google Glass’ computer spectacles. Cecilia Abadie was written up under a state law banning drivers from watching TV behind the wheel, which the officer in question believed Ms Abadie’s transgression fell under. But there’s a twist… On Bing: see pictures of Google Glass Google driverless cars ‘safer than humans’ Ms Abadie claims the augmented reality device – which displays information on a tiny screen in a smartphone-like hands-free format in front of the wearer’s eye – was actually switched off at the time.
