D-day for General Motors: GM files for bankruptcy

It marks the 1 June deadline imposed by US president Barack Obama for the General to sort out its business – or seek protection from creditors in the bankruptcy courts. As we’re all too painfully aware, GM has been unable to perform miracles, triggering one of the greatest industrial collapses seen in American corporate history.

Jeremy and James play with Crossovers and Caravans in tonight’s Top Gear Surprisingly, we’re almost at the end of Series 20 of Top Gear, with tonight’s episode, episode 5, the next to last in the current series. James and Jeremy have concluded that crossovers are the perfect cars for caravanning, so they grab a pair of crossovers – one from Volkswagen and one from Mazda – and do a day living life as a caravanner in  the New Forsest and back at the Top Gear track.

Skoda has revealed prices and specifications for the new Octavia which will cost from £14,990 rising to £23,240. The new Skoda Octavia – Skoda’s new Octavia built on the new VW Golf platform – was revealed last month and goes on sale in March, so Skoda have had their abacus out to work out how much they want for a piece of new Octavia action. Starting point is the Octavia 1.2 TSi S which will cost £15,990, with the cheapest diesel – the Octavia 1.6 TDI S – starting at £18,040 and the range topping out with the Octavia 2.0 litre diesel Elegance at £23,240.
