Frankfurt 2011: New Vauxhall Astra GTC (2012) debut

Vauxhall Astra GTC finally arrives at Frankfurt The Vauxhall Astra GTC (and its European equivalent Opel GTC) finally gets to go on public view at Frankfurt this week, a year after it arrived as a concept at Paris. Based on the more prosaic five-door Astra, the GTC carries over just about nothing except the door handles although it still conspires to look like a slightly squashed, butch version of its sibling. The Astra GTC is a decent looking effort from Vauxhall – as is the regular Astra – designed to take the fight to cars like the Scirroco.

CARS 2: The Queen & Prince Wheeliam

Prince Wheeliam - in a Bentley Continental? It’s one of those weekends where Royal stories will abound, so it made a bit of sense – to us at least – to make mention of the Royal and London connections in the upcoming Disney Pixar sequel – CARS 2. Topically – there’s a surprise – we have a Prince Wheeliam, which appears to be Bentley Continental GT-esque (who decided that, we wonder?) and The Queen seems to be a regal Rolls Phantom with a Crown on her roof.

Even in GTI guise the current VW Polo is a rather sober driving experience compared to more exuberant rivals like the Renaulsport Clio or upcoming Ford Fiesta ST. There's nothing wrong with that, but with a WRC campaign on the horizon and a sensible-shoes donor car on its hands, Wolfsburg have created the Polo R Line.
