Sat, 20 Feb 2010The Mercedes F800 Concept will be at Geneva and previews the 2011/2012 Mercedes CLS One of the biggest style successes in the car world in the last decade has been the four-door swoopy-coupe. And the whole genre started life – at least in a mainstream way – with the launch of the Mercedes CLS in 1994. It was Mercedes’ return to the ‘Executive Coupe’ market after a ten year gap (the W124 version of the E-Class Coupe) but broke new ground with its four-door configuration in a coupe body.
Chevrolet Volt for European sale in November 2011
Mon, 13 Dec 2010Chevrolet will start selling the Volt range-extender hybrid from European Chevy outlets in November 2011 and plans right-hand drive from UK launch in spring 2012. It means that GM will offer Europeans the choice of the Volt or the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera – the Euro spec version of the same car. Although prices are not yet set for either model, CAR understands the Chevy is likely to be positioned slightly cheaper than the Vauxhall.
New Skoda Octavia vRS hatch & estate revealed
Wed, 05 Jun 2013The 2013 Skoda Octavia vRS has been revealed (vRS hatch pictured) The Skoda Octavia vRS – the latest version of Skoda’s quick and appealing take on the VW Golf GTI – has been unveiled ahead of its debut at the Goodwood FoS in July, and it looks a cracker. Available as either a hatchback or estate – and as a diesel or a petrol – the Octavia vRS manages to repackage the Golf GTI and Golf GTD in to one Skoda, offering good performance (the vRS is a bit slower than the GTI to 62mph at 6.8 seconds but has a 2mph higher top speed), good looks and the promise of prices starting not much above £20k. The petrol vRS gets the Golf GTI’s 217bhp 2.0 litre TSI and the diesel vRS the 181bhp 2.0 litre TFI from the Golf GTD, both with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and a six-speed DSG as option, sports suspension, XDS differential, quicker steering and multi-link rear suspension.
