This is a multiple identical item listing for Brand New Military Surplus (Manufactured by Binder Metals), Heat Treated, Chrome Moly Steel Alloy Flat Washers, Part Number X10910174-38.  Each bid quantity is for a Lot of Ten (10) Washers.  You may bid / buy any number of lots, up to the total quantity available above.

These were purchased from another military surplus dealer recently, and they are brand new in the original factory boxes.  We repackaged them in heavy 4-mil Ziplok bags for resale.  Best I can research, 4130 steel that is heat treated to Rockwell C 35+/- is remarkably tough, and the carbon content is within the range that allows excellent weldability.  With an average thickness of about 1/4," these are not exactly your garden variety hardware store washers.  Should be excellent for a wide range of demanding applications.

According to the box:

Inside diameter:  .646" min. - .696" max. (fits 5/8" bolt)

Outside diameter:  1.740" min. - 1.790" max.

Thickness:  .243" min. - .257" max.

Material:  4130 Chrome Moly Steel

Heat Treatment:  33 - 38 (Rockwell C) [Tensile strength approx. 157,000]

Finish:  Yellow Chromate

According to various online sources:

4130 steel is commonly referred to as chromoly, an alloy which contains chromium and molybdenum among other elements. The number ‘4130' is a code that the American Iron & Steel Institute uses to define the approximate chemical composition of the steel. The ‘41' indicates an alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum, while the ‘30' indicates a carbon content of 0.3%.

PROPERTIES AND COMMON USES:

Chromoly is stronger than normal steel, weight for weight, and is commonly used to make high-end bicycle frames, roll cages for race cars, and for fuselages on small aircraft. Chromoly’s high strength-to-weight ratio and high tensile strength makes it an ideal choice for these particular applications. In addition, 4130 is utilized in a variety of applications because of its weldability, formability, ductility and toughness. Overall it is considerably stronger and more durable than standard 1020 steel. While this particular grade of steel does contain chromium, it is not in enough quantities to provide the corrosion resistance found in stainless steel.

Regarding the manufacturing of high-end bicycle frames, chromoly is typically used to make bikes lighter rather than stronger. This means that manufacturers use less of the steel so the strength is the same, but the weight is reduced. However, the stiffness of the steel is approximately the same, so with less of it to be stiff, the chromoly bike frame ends up more flexible than the standard steel one.

One of the most important characteristics of chromoly is its ability to be case hardened by carburization of the surface. The core of the material retains its bulk properties, while the outside is significantly hardened to reduce wear and tear on the part. This makes this particular grade of steel an excellent material for such uses as gears, piston pins, crankshafts, etc.

Combined Shipping

Important:  EBay's shipping calculator works reasonably well for single quantity purchases, however, it often overcharges on multiple/combined purchases.  This is especially true of large orders that will ship in Priority flat-rate boxes.  If your shipping cost seems excessive, please email us prior to paying and we will be glad to send a corrected invoice.

By default, we ship most non-fragile, lightweight items (under 13 oz) by First Class Mail to save you money.  First Class is usually cheaper for single items, but please click the "see details" link for other shipping options if you are buying multiple quantities.  The tiny link is located directly below the big blue "Add to Cart" button.  These options will be available for selection as you go through eBay checkout.

U.S. Shipments

We ship packages daily through USPS, and we upload all tracking information to eBay.  You should receive a tracking email sent to your eBay email address.

If you would like to use your UPS, FedEx, or freight account, we will be glad to package your order free of charge.  You are responsible for all labeling, call tags, and pickup arrangements with your carrier.  We will have your order boxed or palletized when your carrier is scheduled to arrive.  You may also pick up larger orders in person (by appointment) at our store to save the shipping costs.  However, our facility is not set up for retail shopping.

International (Non-US) Shipments

We ship all international packages through the US Postal Service.  We no longer charge a handling fee because of our increased worldwide sales, and we thank our international customers for making this possible.  International shipping costs continue to rise, but we will minimize those costs by using Priority Flat-Rate boxes and envelopes whenever possible.

International Shipping Options:

First Class Mail International, Small Flat-Rate Boxes & Envelopes:  Maximum weight is (4) pounds [1.81 Kilograms], delivery time averages about ten (10) business days, but can occasionally take several weeks.  Confirmation of shipping is provided by the customs document number, but package tracking is usually not available beyond the US border.

Priority Mail International, Priority Mail Medium and Large Flat-Rate Boxes:  Maximum weight/dimensions vary by country.  We use Priority Mail and occasionally Express Mail for larger/heavier packages that exceed the limits of cheaper options.  Delivery time averages about 7 to 10 business days, but can occasionally take several weeks.  Online tracking and (partial) insurance depends upon the destination country, but is included to most destinations.

Customs:

Customs fees and other import taxes are imposed by some countries.  We have no way of determining these costs prior to shipment, and all such costs are the responsibility of the customer upon delivery.  We will not mark packages as gifts or declare false item values.  Customs fraud is a serious crime in the US and we will not accept that risk.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

Customs Delays:  We have noticed that about 1% of international packages get held in foreign customs offices for extended periods (sometimes for several weeks).  Fortunately, almost all are eventually delivered.  Delays are more likely to occur in smaller countries or those with highly protectionist import policies, but they can happen anywhere.  Such delays are unacceptable in our opinion, but there is absolutely nothing we can do about them.

Payment Terms

Payments must be received within (10) days unless you have made prior arrangements with us.  We accept all types of payments, including all major credit cards, through Paypal.  EBay now prohibits sellers from offering acceptance of non-electronic payments, except for certain in-person transactions.

Returns

Any item may be returned to us within fourteen (14) days for a full refund of the purchase price, excluding shipping costs.  Items listed specifically "as-is" are excluded from this refund policy.

Feedback

We leave feedback after the transaction is complete.  No transaction is complete until the customer has received his purchase and is satisfied.  If something needs to be refunded, the transaction is complete when the item has been returned and the customer has received a refund.  We do not cave in to extortion but we do make every reasonable effort to satisfy every customer.  If any item fails to meet your expectations, within the description posted in the listing, please contact us so we can make things right.  We want to earn your repeat business.

Thank you!
