TM10-1349 ~ Maintenance Manual for Ford Jeep ~ ¼ Ton 4X4 Truck ~ Model GPW
This is a quality reprint of US Army Manual TM10-1349. Originally published in June of 1943, it is the Ford version of the GPW Maintenance Manual.
From the Manual:
This Motor Vehicle has been thoroughly tested and inspected. Like any other piece of machinery, to maintain it in proper operating condition, it should be lubricated at the time specified using the proper grades of oil and grease. All working parts as well as oil holes should be kept clean and free from dirt and grit. This vehicle should periodically have a systematic inspection.
All parts in this vehicle are completely interchangeable with those manufactured by Willys Overland Motors Inc. under the contracts listed on the preceding page. Both Ford and Willys part numbers are therefore listed under the illustrations showing the various assemblies. These part numbers should be used only for the purpose of identifying parts as they are mentioned in the text, and, the accuracy of the part number should be verified by referring to the parts book when placing orders for parts.
In the following pages we have described how to take care of this unit and handle it in such a way that it will give maximum service and dependable performance.
In the forepart of this Manual will be found complete instructions relative to conditioning the unit for Service, Driver's Instructions, Lubrication and Inspection.
In the Maintenance and Repair Section will be found instructions which will enable one to make proper adjustments and repairs.
The pictures are very usable and not washed out or too dark like many of the manuals I have seen that have come from copy machines. These are printed on 28 pound paper. Copy paper is generally 20 pound and you can feel the difference. It is bound with GBC plastic combs so that it will lay flat. If you would like I can, rather than bind with the plastic comb, three hole punch it for your binder.
If you are collecting military manuals or looking for a prop to display at your next show, this is not the manual you want. If you want some usable information on your Jeep that will lay flat on your bench when you are working on your pride and joy or some period information on how it was done back Sixty Five years ago while you curl up in front of the fire this winter, this is the one you need.
