Here is an excellent Chevrolet 396 block # 3855961, date code is L-28-5. It is standard bore and hardly any ridge can be felt at top of bores.
This is the heaviest wall casting BB big block chevy ever made, it weighs about 30 lbs more than any other standard deck big block casting of its vintage.
Used a high nickel content also. All the cylinder bores look good, they do now have a very LIGHT coating of rust and dust as one would expect from dry storage. It was used in Chevelle and Impala"s as far as I know. This has all its original main caps, no damage or repairs ever, about the best foundation one could choose for an engine build. It has never been decked, shows an EE code, I do not know what that is, I cannot decipher it. Check with your machinist, these can be overbored way out for much larger displacement if desired.
