This uses the internal membrane for sealing out water as do the other high end switches from Warn, etc. as the cheaper rubber covered switches you will often see will are extremely thin and the rubber cover will usually develop holes/splits that will cause the winch switch to fail.
These also have the built in guard to prevent accidental operation that most of those switches will not have.
These actually have a defect warranty that we will be happy to help you with should you have an issue.

Attention: It will not work if your winch pushes the full amperage of the winch through the cables. The older Warn winches with the gray rotary switch used this arrangement and will fry any winch switch that does not use the heavy gauge cables on the switch itself.
