This is a used
“Philips Mark 1” AM Radio with an 8 Track Stereo Tape Player made in Canada and supplied
by Phillips to MOPAR as one of their OEM Factory Ordered Radio Options for All
1971 Chrysler New Yorker, Newport, 300,
and Town & Country Wagon, and Imperial. It carried the MOPAR Label showing
Model # 3501165. The Power and Speaker feed lines still have their factory
original connectors as well as the pigtails that plug into them.
The 1971 Hollander Interchange Manual lists this radio / 8 Track applications under their interchange Number 428 and shows its 1971 Salvage Yard Used Price at $232.30. It notes that if you use this radio to replace any of the other radio options of the year you must use your old radio’s Bezel. This came from the retail shelf stock of a long ago closed old Auto Salvage Yard in North Central Missouri and has been sitting on a shelf in my garage for almost 10 years. It has always been in dry inside storage. It was thought to be a good working radio when it was taken out and put on the shelf by the folks at the Salvage Yard. They did not intentionally save junk to sell to customers, but I have no way of knowing what the years have done to it and have no way to test it. The on/off –volume control switch seems to work as expected but no power to check it. The push buttons work moving thee dial freely back and forth through the five presets. The manual tuning shaft moves the dial from end to end, but without the knob it feels a bit stiff. The spring loaded 8 Track Tape door seems to work as it should. Looking inside the 8 Track shows nothing obviously amiss…nothing loose…nothing rattling…looks okay, but again I can’t test it. The chrome work has eroded a bit. Consider it to be “used non-working for parts or repair” and hope it is better than that. Sold as is and non-returnable.
