Jay Senoff Windscreen
WHY? Comfort. As much as I love dropping the top on my SLK, wind buffeting can be annoying when the car is at speed. My ownership experience with other roadsters (Miata, BMW Z3) taught me that a good windscreen between the roll bars greatly improve the quality of life in the cockpit when the top is down. Looking for solutions, I started with the OEM products. Mercedes offers a net screen that seems to be the most common option; it looked nice enough, but I previewed one at the local dealership and and didn't like the way the net obstructed the view out the back window. No problem, says the parts man--we also have a nice plexiglass unit. It looked like a good choice until he mentioned the price--$695 MSRP--whereupon I tried not to laugh while I declined the offer. On to the aftermarket.
I found a wide variety of options online, from flimsy-looking plex units to pricey screens that were engraved and even illuminated. Searching for more information, I searched the SLKworld forum and found a favorable review of a windscreen made by a man named Jay Senoff. It looked good, so I checked out his website. I liked the look of his screen, the price ($155 shipped) looked reasonable, and he offered a written guarantee that I would be satisfied with his product. I liked the idea of buying from a small business so I clicked the "buy now" button and placed the order via Paypal. Couldn't have been easier.
SERVICE. Fantastic. Within 10 minutes of placing the order I received an email from Jay thanking me. In another 10 minutes I received a notification of shipping telling me that the windscreen was being shipped that day via USPS Priority Mail. The mail carrier left the package on my front porch two days later--incredible! The windscreen was packed very well to prevent damage, and it arrived in perfect condition. Workmanship was very good; the plexiglass was clear and unscratched and the edges polished nicely. Installation instructions were included.
INSTALLATION. Couldn't be much easier--set the windscreen into place, attach it with the four self-tapping screws (included) and you are ready to roll. Start to finish, less than 10 minutes. Installation instructions are clear and easy to follow.

RESULTS. Great. Comfort inside the cab at speed is greatly improved, and it's even easier to hear your music. When I first drove in the dark I noticed that there was a slight bit of reflection from headlights behind the car, but my auto-dimming mirror minimizes the effect so it isn't bothersome for me.
WORTH THE MONEY? Absolutely. Not a lot of money to spend for a product that produces great results and is backed by a great guarantee. Great bang for the buck. Thanks, Jay!
