PATS 1 Programming On the below PATS 1 models (in green) you can program the key yourself (if you have one already working key) using the on-board programming procedure(in green). There is a different procedure if you have no working key...of course the key would have to be cut to physically turn the lock before you could proceed. Mercury Mystique LS - 1997 - 2/1/1998 Ford Countour LX - 1997 - 2/1/1998 Ford Mustang GT - 1996 Add Duplicate Key: 1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder. 2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF. 3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN) then back OFF. 4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed. PATS 2 Programming On the below PATS 2 models (in gray) You can program the key yourself IF YOU HAVE TWO EXISTING KEYS OF THIS SAME TYPE/SHAPE which are already programmed to crank the vehicle....otherwise you will have to hire an automotive locksmith or Ford dealer to program the key with special equipment which is connected to the vehicle. This new key does NOT count as one of the two keys necessary. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder. 2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF. 3. Remove the existing key and, within five seconds, insert a second key and turn it to ON (RUN) then back OFF. 4. Insert the new key before ten seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it on for one second and turn back to OFF 5. The security light will light up for three seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed. |
