The real key to any air intake system is the filter. While the craftsmanship and quality of material used to make the air tube (and box) does affect performance; the real key to great a great performing intake system is how efficiently air can be moved through the air filter. The problem with most aftermarket air intake systems (and filters) is that they either flow well or filter well, but not both. It's really quite simple. Focus too heavily on filtration and the air flow will suffer. Or, focus too heavily on air flow and you run the risk of allowing too much dirt into the engine. S&B Filters, on the other hand, went through many years of exhaustive research to develop a filter that has the perfect balance of air flow and filtration. S&B tests their filters on three criteria of performance: efficiency, restrictions and capacity. Efficiency: S&B air intake systems trap 98.41% of all dirt before the air enters your engine*. That's compared to 95% efficiency of the top-selling competitor and 99.64% efficiency of a factory-style paper filter. Restrictions: S&B air intake systems are 15% less restrictive than factory filter and 7% less restrictive than the top-selling competitor. That means you're getting a lot more clean air for more efficient power. Capacity: S&B filters are designed to hold a lot of dirt. In fact, S&B filters hold 206 grams of dirt compared to 133 grams by the top selling competitor and 157 grams by a factory filter. S&B achieves larger capacity by increasing the surface area of their filters. They do so by increasing the depth of the pleats and taking special care to reduce the glue bleed around the edge of the filter. More surface area (and larger capacity) help maintain better flow, longer. And, larger capacity allows you to go longer between cleaning and recharging. Bottom Line: S&B filters stop the dirt and improve air flow for increased power and long-lasting protection.
