B1800 Engine in 1965 Volvo PV544 The Wheeler Dealers show featured a PV544 on their
program on 7/6/2016. That PV544 featured Vintage Air AC that I completed on my
PV544. You can have an AC cooled PV544 just like they completed on their show!
It makes driving a 544 a totally “cool” experience! Up for sale is a complete running B1800 Powertrain. I rebuilt, replaced and improved this Volvo engine for my PV544 that I had shipped from California. When it arrived it didn’t run. The previous owner had it running in California but because it had not been started since 2002 three of the cylinders had broken upper compression rings when it arrived to me. I removed the engine and transmission from the car and completely went through the engine to make it serviceable and 100% bullet proof – I hate breakdowns! It has standard ring bore, main and rod bearing sizes. That work was completed between October 2014 and May 2015. I had it road worthy by June 2015. The car has only been driven locally here in Michigan and has less than 800 miles on the new engine. I did many things to ad “bling” under the hood as you can see in the pictures. I spared no expense to put this engine together including what I believe to be one of a handful of PV544’s with add on period correct AC! That part of the project was well over $2000! The engine sells as a package to include the custom aluminum radiator, engine with wiring, hoses, clutch and bell housing with a 4-speed Volvo transmission. If you have any idea what it costs to rebuild a Classic Volvo engine then you will understand that my price is very fair, especially with the turnkey AC system. This engine runs beautiful! Why I am Selling I am converting my 1965 Volvo PV544 with an upgraded powertrain from a 1986 Mustang SVO 2.3L turbo with a Mustang 8.8” narrowed rear end and Borg Warner 5 speed with overdrive. It just makes more sense to use an engine that can be modified and run with Fuel Injection, so the transformation is underway. When completed I will have no use for the stock Volvo B18. The lucky Buyer is getting a turnkey package that is ready to run. Please understand that this is a quality engine. No substandard parts were used. I have bills for every part put in or on this engine. If you know the cost for parts you will know that I have A LOT more money in the powertrain than the asking price! The AC system alone was about $2500 with all the extras, the Weber Carb setup - $600. I’ve done all the work so the lucky Buyer can profit from what I have done. Now my B1800 is ready to go on to its’ next adventure! For anyone wanting new engine in a classic Volvo this is the way to go. For example, when I started my project in October of 2014 there was a B18 engine on eBay for sale that had approximately 20,000 miles on it. That engine was at a restorers shop somewhere in New England. He was asking $2000 for a long block with an oil pan and shiny red paint! I’m not sure it he ever sold it for that price but not to me!
