It is just plug and play: no coding required. I had it on my 2005 X5 installed.

You can do 'dial number' or 'dial name' commands, etc. 

Very convenient. 

You may need to get a bracket for installation. Goes in your trunk next to cd changer and navigation unit. There is already plug for it.  Works great.
