BRASS AUTO OIL SIDE, COWL LIGHT, LAMP - EARLY 1900’S
EARLY 1900’S AUTOMOBILE BRASS OIL SIDELITE, COWL LIGHT OR LAMP - VERY GOOD CONDITION
This is a brass trimmed right hand sidelight, or cowl light for an antique vintage automobile or truck from the early 1900’s. It is in very good condition for its age.
There is no manufacturer’s name on the top or bottom. It looks a lot like an INDIANA light, but I don’t know for sure.
The top, font, and clamps; as well as the lens frames and door; are made of brass. The rest of the body is made of steel. It does not look like it was ever plated, and therefore I’m guessing it dates approximately 1915 or earlier.
It measures 11 inches in overall height, and about 4 3/4 inches square.
The round brass top is not cracked, and has only a very small dent. See the picture.
It has two flat beveled glass lenses. The lenses measure about 3 5/8 in. square, and are framed in brass. The lenses are not scratched, chipped, or cracked. The brass frames and door are not dented. The door hinge and the latch arrangement are not damaged.
The interior is clean, and the two reflectors are in good condition.
The removable brass font is in good condition. There is one small dent in the bottom. See the picture.
The burner is missing.
The integral mounting bracket is riveted to the side facing the car.
There is a hole just below the bracket. It looks like someone was going to electrify it at one time. Also, a couple of screws in the base-to-font do not look original.
The metal body has surface rust and minor pits only, and should clean up nicely for repaint.
I guarantee this to be an old original light, and not a reproduction.
Use it on your old car, or as a decorator item for your garage or recreation room.
I have done my best to accurately describe this item, but I am not an expert. Look at the pictures, or ask for additional information before you bid, as there will be no returns on this item.
