This is a nice freshwater Big Twin 40 that I bought in upstate NY with the idea of dropping it on a late 50’s Lyman that I have, but that project went in a different direction so it’s surplus. Overall nice, could use the basic blow off the dust with an air-hose and scrub it with a toothbrush clean up. Has -great- compression, and pulls thru smoothly. Not run by me but reported running strongly when removed from a Lyman hull that was being scrapped for rot. Noting that the thoughtful owner would do water pump impeller, coils, points, and condenser, and run it, I haven’t gone that far. I bet she’d run as-is, but for a restoration I’d do the routine servicing listed.

Has the complete wiring harness including solenoid box, complete, key switch, etc. Hook up a battery and you’re set.

Bad stuff: No key, I suppose it could be bought based on the lock code number, or replaced. And a small chunk of aluminum missing from the exhaust shroud, from handling on removal or so I’m told. I’d do a resin repair job on that and paint it, but that’s just me. Easy enough to source and replace if you like for a perfect restoration.

Local pick up only, but I can store it until pickup is made as long as it’s paid for. I’m on the Raritan Bayshore of NJ and can pick it up with a chain-fall and help load. This would make a good runner as-is after a tune-up, a perfect restoration basis, or a good parts source.

These engines have an excellent reputation and were one of the old standards, built for years by Evinrude. Simple and reliable, easy to work on, with tons of parts available today. The vintage “mailbox door cowling” fits the look of any late 60’s thru early 60’s runabouts for antique boat restorations.

Stand not included.
