This Halibrand 50th Anniversary Mickey Thomson Challenger Commemorative Clock is a must-have addition for any hot rod enthusiast. It is cast out of magnesium. Thes commemorative clocks were produced by Halibrand in the early 1990’s to celebrate their 50th anniversary in business and also to recognize the achievements of Mickey Thompson who used specially built Halibrand magnesium wheels on his Challenger 1 Bonneville Streamliner that he built to race on the Bonneville salt flats in 1959-1962. Powered by 4 supercharged Pontiac engines, Challenger 1 exceeded 400 miles per hour in a one way pass in 1960, which exceeded John Cobb’s existing land speed record of 394 miles per hour. However, Mickey Thompson was not able to back up the speed with a second pass due to mechanical problems. Challenger 1 pioneered a number of innovations in the world of land speed record vehicles. Notable were the advances in tire development by Goodyear and wheel construction by Halibrand. This commemorative clock measures 24” in diameter and 3.5” thick.
