Up for auction is a manual 4 speed Ford Toploader from a 1965-1966 Mustang with the High Performance (HIPO) 289 V8 option.
In storage for over 40 years in an elderly neighbor's garage, this transmission was from his 1965 Mustang fastback restoration project (sadly, car was sold 15 years ago, less motor/ trans, before I moved into the community).
The trans is a CLOSE RATIO unit, 28 spline shafts.
The ID tag reads : HEH - BX 013490
the tail housing casting is (as best as I can make it out): 04ZR 7A040 A (TOP LINE) A12 W 2 ? (SECOND LINE?)
The body housing casting is: C5AR-7006-D W-I with a A 24 cast date
The input collar: RF C5AR 7050 D
The top cover has a LW stamped into it.
I could not find any VIN number stamped onto the bellhousing flange area.
I have not removed the cover to inspect the internals, but the gear selectors move to all positions and the shafts spin freely in all positions.
An interesting historical find! Hopefully someone can use this to complete their K code car restoration!!
Local pickup only, but delivery or meet up could be possible for people near Pennsylvania, but for an extra fee.
Please ask any questions or make technical comments, before bidding or the end of auction.
Enjoy the auction!

The Metuchen, NJ (?) assembly plant (supposedly) did not stamp all/ some/ most (??) of the early HIPO trans with a vin, until 1967 (?). Is this true or false? , but I do see that the cast pad isn't even machined flat, so it sort of makes some sense.... But hey! I guess if you need a trans for a Jersey assembled car..? Enjoy the factory mysteries!!
