Pair of ZF 630 gears 1.56 ratio reverse gears (means they can be used on either side of the boat without the need for reverse rotation engines). They came out of a boat with about 400 hours of use and have been sitting covered in my barn for the last 8 years. They both turn, back and forth, on the input shaft and the output coupling, and have had oil in them the whole time as can be seen in the video.

HOWEVER!!!!

These gears are not ready to be dropped in a boat! While I'm 90% certain they are in great shape inside, gears and pinions, etc. they need to be inspected, cleaned, have the seals changed, and the oil pump checked, etc. They will have small amounts of dust and impurities inside, perhaps some humidity. On the outside, they need to completely stripped and repainted, and likely some nuts will need replacement. One of them needs a new neutral switch ($30). This means they need a PARTIAL rebuild, that's all. Again, while most of this work is cosmetic and regular maintenance, they DO NEED THE REBUILD. This is my quick assessment, there is always the chance, however remote, they may need a full rebuild. It feels unlikely but it is not impossible. Where to rebuild them? There are many shops around the country. Right here in Florida you have Thermaco transmissions in Stuart, whose specialty is to rebuild transmissions. https://thermacomarinetransmissions.com/ They have quoted me around $1,000 for the partial rebuild and around $1800 for a full rebuild (every part inside new). You can use somebody else if you prefer of course. So, the buyer is looking at around $2,250 per transmission partially rebuilt and ready to use, or $4,500 total for both. These transmissions cost nowadays $4,000 new EACH, so you do the math if this is worth it to you. $8,000 new versus $4,500 rebuilt. https://www.michiganmotorz.com/zf-68a-down-angle-transmissionFinally, they do come with 4 mounts, 2 each. These don't come with the new gears and must be bought separately. They cost $230 each, so another $960 savings. https://marinepartssource.com/brkt-trans-mnt
