Below is a guideline for determining if a set of saddlebags will
fit on your bike. It works in most cases, but not all
First you'll need a
ruler or measuring tape.
A. Take a side to side
measurement: Measure side to side, from the back of the saddle, (riders
position) to the arm of the directional signal, you'll need to compare this
measurement with our length measurements of the desired saddlebag. This
measurement should be greater than the bags length. (See image below for
reference)
B. Take a top to bottom
measurement. Measure from the bottom of the seat pad to the top of the exhaust
pipe as a reference. This measurement must be at least 1" inch greater
than the height of the desired saddlebags (see picture below for reference).
Measurement of bag are given in the item description above.
Instructions for
Installing Saddlebags
Things You'll Need:
Screwdriver
Drill
Saddlebags,
yoke with ties
Step
1
Use a screwdriver to
remove the screws securing the motorcycle seat to the frame. Slide the seat
forward then backward to remove the keyhole and tank brackets. A single
screwdriver should be sufficient to remove the seat, depending on the bike
model.
Step
2
Untie the yoke, which
is usually held together with leather or nylon strips. The yoke is the part of
the saddle bags that goes under the seat.
Step
3
Place each saddle bag
where you want them to sit on your bike. The yoke lays under the seat, with a
saddle bag on each side of the bike. The best location is usually over the
shocks.
Step
4
Mark where the yoke
is positioned over the hardware on the bike and where it overlaps, using a
permanent marker.
Step
5
Remove the saddle
bags. Lay them flat on the ground and place the yoke over an object, such as an
old phone book. Make sure the marks you made line up with each other and that
the pre-made holes line up. If they do not, drill holes through the yoke and
tie them together with a strip of leather taken from the yoke. You are
basically re-threading the yoke's ties.
Step
6
Place the saddle bags
back on your bike and position them.
Step
7
Reinstall the
motorcycle seat by replacing the screws.
Step
8
Examine the saddle
bags to make sure they are not resting on anything that may become entangled
with them.
