Antique Maritime Brass Compass Patt 1151A from a Small Boat Mushroom Binnacle

Antique Maritime Brass Compass from a Small Boat Mushroom Binnacle marked Patt 1151A, No. 4737E.  The Alcohol filled compass card measures 3-7/8”, marked in 10 degree increments.  I’m really not familiar with these compasses, but it looks like it might need a little more fluid(?)  Not sure what happened to the mushroom binnacle, as it originally belonged to my grandpa and got passed on to my Dad when my grandpa died about 45 years ago.  And now it belongs to me as my Dad passed on a few years back.

The compass measures 6-1/8” across the bezel by 3-1/4” high and weighs just over 5 pounds.  There are two pins, one on each side across from one another for the compass to swivel on, but it’s had 3 brass ‘ears’ partially ground down around its perimeter (to get it removed from the binnacle?)  Appears to be 10-15 degrees off from being accurate.

The Overall Condition of the Maritime Compass, with the exception of the modified ears, commensurate with its age of 100+ years & use over that time, is considered Good.
