There is no denying that any type of racing, even at the most entry level or a spec series, can get expensive. From spare parts and seasonal maintenance to unexpected costs like repairs from an accident or untimely engine or driveline failure, your racing budget can take a big hit, affecting other aspects of your racing program. This includes the much needed and mandatory safety gear your class and/or series requires to run. Car racing suits, helmets, gloves, and more are all very much required to run safely, but we understand there is only so much budget to go around. So, we’ve worked hard to provide our racers the race fire suit that will protect them and include the most notable features racers are asking for in a premium one-piece racing suit made from lightweight Nomex® materials.
Race long enough and a crash is inevitable. Racers are a head-strong lot and often will try to occupy the same track real estate as their competitors or will go a little too deep into a corner vying for that extra hair of a second off their lap times, only to come out the other side entangled with another race car or a track barrier. It is often said it is not “if” you end up upside down and on fire, but “when.” It’s a scary thing to think about, but with the right safety gear you can exit your race car and stand to race again another day.
We created our new Speedway Motors branded Formula one-piece racing suit to keep you safe by using the best build quality and features. We use 100 percent Nomex® for this suit material. Nomex® is an aramid fiber that has natural fire-resistant properties. Meaning the fibers themselves are fire-resistant versus a treatment of the material as is common with flame-retardant cotton (FRC). The Nomex® material does not support combustion and has a carbonizing action when confronted with intense heat and/or fire. This carbonizing action creates a hard shell-like material, protecting you further from any intense burns reaching your skin. Also, the natural fire resistance of Nomex® means that it cannot be diminished or eliminated with repeated suit cleaning, whereas FRC material is affected by repeated machine washing or using the wrong cleaning agents or water temperatures.
We further enhance your safety by combining a second layer of 100 percent Nomex® material, secured with box quilting, while the suit remains surprisingly light. Lighter than a comparable two layer FRC-based suit. Something you will certainly feel in long races and in the heat of the day. Our Formula double layer Nomex® driver’s suit is SFI rated as 3.2A/5 and features a Thermal Protective Performance rating of 24. The TPP rating is the amount of time, in seconds, you have before 2nd degree burns occur, either from direct flame or radiant heat. This high quality Nomex® Formula suit provides 12 seconds of protection.
You can increase your TPP by adding additional layers to a fire suit using and . Also be sure to learn more about .
Multi-layer suits made from FRC will undoubtedly protect the wearer, but the heavier material means that in the heat of the race you’ll be tiring from the suit’s inability to breath and its heavier material weighing you down. Nomex® based suits are not only lighter, but offer higher protection per ounce of material, so you get the same, if not higher protection with less weight. The lighter suit not only keeps you comfortable throughout your race but provides more freedom of movement as well.
Dry cleaning of Nomex® racing suits is the preferred method of caring for your fire suit, especially with a dry cleaner familiar with flame retardant fabrics. Our Formula Nomex® racing suit can be completely washed in standard home appliances using any one of our products if needed however. Though spot cleaning is often all your suit will need. Be sure to follow washing instructions carefully to retain color fastness of the suit.
You’ll find all the notable features you’d come to expect from a top line double-layer racing suit like elastic wrist and ankle cuffs, full zipper front with hook and loop zipper cover panel, and front pants pockets. However, we went even further with this new suit design, giving you 360-degree arm gussets for freedom of movement in your arms for more comfort when strapped in. Our double layer Nomex Formula racing suit even features a rear expansion panel. Finally, we added dual reinforced shoulder epaulets to ensure that when you need help getting out of your race car in a hurry, your suit will be up to the job.
Our new one-piece double layer Nomex® Formula fire suit is available in five sizes, ranging from Small to Double X, which covers waist sizing from 32 to 42 inches and chest sizing from 38 to 46 inches. See our for complete sizing details and watch our video to ensure you accurately measure your body for your new suit. If our one-piece fire suit measurements are not optimal for your body type you might want to consider our Endurance II double layer , where you can order the jacket and pants in different sizes to accommodate your dimensions better (a Large jacket with Medium pants for example). The 2 piece race suit version is extremely popular as a drag racing fire suit as well.
