This tool is not only a toe in gauge but to can also measure Lead/Trail static and dynamic .Full hike.Measure your wheel base with car at ride height and full drop. Set your trailing arms to length, Center your steering . Check for bent suspension parts,Check A arm mount location ,check frame rails to see if there bent or over to one side or pushed back.Check for bent rear axle .
Toe in gauge. You can also scribe lines on rears tire and check for a bent rear axle. Make sure you check front/back and top/bottom of tires.Axle could be bent in 2 direstions.
Toe in gauge with built in tapes measure view from window in black rod holders. Set pointers on scribe lines.Set one side at zero and set the other side to the scribed line. Go to back of the tires.Set the pointer that was not zeroed to the scribe line and move the pointer that was set at zero to the scribe line and that is you toe. The I set the toe gauge to the third rib from the outside of the tires on both sides . Lock the pointers . Then hang the gauge in the trailer. If you get bumped in the heat race you can quickly check your toe dial it in .
Check lead /trail by setting one pointer on the centerline of the rear axle and centerline of the front spindle. Set one pointer on zero and the set the other to the wheelbase. Got the other side. Then set the pointer you set at the wheel base put on centerline and the go to the other end and set the pointer that was put one zero to the wheel base and that will tell you your trail/lead .Setting with plumb bobs does not take into consideration Caster. Now you can repeat this with care at full hike to see your trail/lead.
Set you trailing arms to length. Use you misalign spacer to reduce the heim down to ½” Set one pointer on Zero. put the trailing arm on the tool and adjust to length.
Checking for bent suspension parts . Set one pointer to centerline of top ball joint ,one pointer to centerline of spindle, and one pointer to centerline of bottom ball joint . One ½ rod has a flat spot to clear the rotor.Do all this on the good side. Then go to the side you think is bent. Compair.
To determine whether the problem is upper or lower . Set the 2 pointers on the rotor and the set the other to centerline of each ball joint .On the good side and compare to the bent side.Toe (23) (18)
Check the spindle on the car set pointers on the rotor and one on center line of good side and compare to the bent side .
To check for a bent spindle off of car. Put a ½ pointer were ball joint studs go, Then put one pointer at each end and one centerline of the spindle. On good spindle then check bent one
Check for a bent lower a arm. Put bolts in the a arm bushings and set 2 pointer centerline of the bolts and the 3rd pointer on centerline of the ball joint .Last picture shows measuring on the car
Check for a bent steering arm . Put 2 pointers on rotor were wheel bolts and one pointer with flat spot on steering arm on good side . Go to the bent side and check
To center steering center link First you must check to see if the distance between the idler arm and pitman arm /steering box pitman shaft is correct . Set pointers centerline of the center link and set . the check the distance between idler arm and the pitman arm/steering box pitman arm. If they are not the same you can put shims under the idler arm mount if ths distance is longer . If the distance is smaller you will have to deal with the frame rails .
Now to center the center link .Set pointer on pitman shaft center link end and the opposite side or the center link mount at idler arm .Switch back and forth form the center line of the pitman shaft and the idler arm center link mount to the pitman arm center link mount to the idler arm till they are the same measurement . Keep this measurement for future reference . I like to writ it on the front crossmember with a paint pen.
To check to see if your center link is parallel .Set one pointer on one side of the center link and the other 2 pointer on a spot that is the same on both sides.
When measuring from a hole hook the slot in the end of the pointer in the hole.
To check frame rails to see if they are over set one pointer with the slot in the end in a hole at the back of the sub frame and one pointer on the frame rail that is the same on both sides at the friont .Now compare the opposite frame rail.Toe 79 80 81 83
To check crossmember to see if it is centered. Put one pointer with the slot in the end in a hole at rear of the front stub and set the other pointer to the hole in the center of the crossmember. Then check the opposite side.
To check lower a arm mountng bracket . Put on pointer with the slot in the end in a hole at rear of stub and the other pointer on the A Arm bolt on the good side . Then check the other side .
To check the length of the frame side to side. Set on pointer at rear trailing arm bracket and one pointer to a spot that is the same on both sides of the front of the frame rail . You can always measure the back of the car in the same manner.
