Yaks and Sukhoi have one of these Oil transducers ( identified by their brown end caps) provided for each instrument panel in the plane.


The two transducers ( or ‘senders’ as they are sometimes called) on Yak 52 are located on the firewall, (near their companion fuel transducers that are identified by a yellow end cap. )


These transducers contain a flexible membrane which generates an electrical signal proportional to the oil or fuel pressure.


When they fail, it’s nearly always the membrane.


The symptom of a failing Oil Transducer is a tri-gauge oil pressure reading that is normal at startup but will slowly drift to zero, within ten minutes, if not immediately.


Clearly this would be of concern to the pilot when airborne, so if it ever happens to you, simply exercising the prop lever ( and noting the correct change in RPM) is proof that you actually DO HAVE oil pressure, and that it is the transducer that has failed.


In a two-place airplane, the Tri gauge in the other pit will be displaying a normal reading- the reason that these transducers are duplicated.
