  (1) We are offering a new NOS 1955  Chevrolet Optional Oil
Filter Canister used with 265 V8 and without Air Conditioning.This oil filter was an option on 1955 265 CI engines as the original 3703524 casting number block had no provision for the oil filter
 canister like the later revised 1956 and later Chevrolet V-8 engine had.

 The 1955 block  had a crankcase vent pipe that went through the area that was used for canister oil filters on the later engines. As a result, Chevrolet offered an optional oil filter that incorporated a built in bracket that went under
 the thermostat housing or water outlet  with longer bolts & had a gasket on both sides of the bracket
 to seal it to the intake and the thermostat housing. The oil came from a tiny fitting on the front of the block above the timing cover, through a small copper oil line.

We bought out the contents of a Chevrolet-Ford Dealership that closed in 1972 and  ended up with thousands of items. This item was one of them. It had a box, but due to age it was falling apart.This has some minor rust due to setting on the shelf for years. This housing appears  to never have been used. This is a great find as these are going for big $$ everywhere. *SEE PHOTO.
