Ignition Coil, Prestolite Ignition (17247.07) by Omix-Ada®. The ignition coil converts the low primary voltage from the battery to the high secondary voltage that goes to the spark plugs. Coils can fail completely, and they can also have degraded performance if damaged. A bad wire can cause a low resistance short, which can cause the coil to overheat. An open wire can force the coil to find another path to ground, possibly through the case, which would damage the coil. If testing proves that the ignition coil in your Jeep is faulty, Omix-Ada has the correct replacement that will restore ignition system operation and performance.

There are 4 different types of ignition coils. An external coil is one that is mounted outside the distributor, such as on the firewall or intake manifold. An internal coil is mounted inside the distributor or distributor cap. Coils for distributorless ignition can be mounted on the engine and use spark plug wires, or they can be mounted directly over the spark plug, with one coil for each plug.
