Oxygen Sensor, Lower (17222.15) by Omix-Ada®. All OBD II vehicles manufactured since 1996 have at least 2 oxygen sensors, both of which detect the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gas. The engine control computer regulates the air/fuel mixture using input from the primary, pre-catalyst oxygen sensor, and monitors catalytic converter function with the signal from the secondary, post-catalyst sensor. If either of these sensors fails, your Jeep could set a CHECK ENGINE light, have reduced performance, and fail an emissions test. The primary oxygen sensor signal ranges from zero to 1 volt, and under normal conditions the sensor signal should fluctuate from high to low. The secondary oxygen sensor is used to check the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Its signal should fluctuate very little compared to the primary sensor.

If the secondary sensor functions otherwise, there could be a problem with the engine or the sensor.
