Up for auction is one rebuilt Model A Ford Zenith 1 Carburetor. This carburetor has the word "ZENITH 1" in indented letters on the front of the bowl. This is an all steel carburetor as original. This carburetor is for the later Model A but will work on all Model A engines.
Rebuilding process starts with soaking the carburetor in carburetor cleaner for several days to loosen any deposits on the carburetor or in the passages. I then scrub the carburetor to remove any paint or debris that may be attached to it. All my carburetors are then bead blasted to a like new finish and painted with a semi gloss gas resistant paint. The next step is to install throttle shaft bushings which in my opinion is a must on all rebuilds. On occasion I may not have to replace them. It will eliminate any air leaks around the shaft and make adjusting the carburetor much easier. If there are leaks the air mixture screw will not adjust properly for the perfect idle. I drill out all brass passage plugs so I can clean out the passages to get proper air and fuel flow. Again this process should be done on all carburetors. I rebuild hundreds of carburetors and have found that most of the passages are clogged or partially blocked which you are not able to see without removing the brass plugs. Even using the water test only shows flow but does not show you if they are partially clogged. This will cause problems and I am not going to cut corners or costs to save money on the rebuild. I chase the threads next and will replace them if I feel they are to worn to be used. I machine all mating surfaces smooth to get a perfect gasket fit. I flow test all jets to their original output of fuel and will fix them if they do not meet my standards. This will give you better performance and idle. The carburetor is then bench tested for leaks before installing on my car for testing purposes. I set the float and test to see if the air mixture screw has an air tight seat. I hone the fuel inlet to prevent any leaks upon installing the gas line and test the float valve for vacuum. The final test is on my car which is essential for the perfect rebuild. If you don't test run and road test each rebuild there potentially will be problems with the carburetor that the buyer should not have to deal with when buying a rebuilt carburetor. You will see the results of my testing down below. When you receive the carburetor you will get step by step instructions for installing and adjusting the carburetor. The above procedure in my opinion is necessary for a perfect rebuilt carburetor that you can enjoy for years to come. I stand behind my rebuilds and will help you if by chance something happens after receiving the carburetor, even if it’s not my problem. I have rebuilt and sold over 550 Zenith Model A Carburetors since 2009. This is a hobby of mine that I take seriously to help the Model A community. I sell them for a reasonable fee plus free shipping.
Parts
replaced are choke lever, air mixture screw, throttle shaft, choke shaft, choke plate, strainer, choke driver, venturi, drain plug, choke lever nut and washer, butterfly screws, gasket kit, main bolt and washer, brass passage plugs and intake bolts with washers. I was able to use most of the original parts to rebuild this carburetor without jeopardizing performance.
Carburetor was installed on my 1930 Coupe, road tested for performance, idle, leaks and stop stalling. Accelerates nice and strong and idles perfect. Engine idled down to 280 rpm and I set idle at 370 rpm for running and testing purposes. Car ran up to 60+ mph on road test. If you have any questions please email me and I will respond as soon as possible. Thanks and Happy bidding.
