Is your late model Mustang shifter noisy?  Did you ever wonder WHY it was noisy?  Many people blame increased noise on their shifter.  But actually noise is generated from the transmission and moves through the shifter (especially billet shifters) into the cabin.  This gear noise or gear whine is, unfortunately, normal.  Insufficient noise isolation material used with aftermarket shifters (and even the stock shifter) is the culprit.  The rather thin, irregular bead of silicon sealer normally used on the bottom of the shifter base serves more as a sealer and isn't really meant to be a noise isolator.  The only real noise isolator is the thick rubber gasket on the shifter handle.  This rubber gasket isolates some of the normal gear noise emanating from the transmission, but the lack of a shifter plate gasket still allows a level of noise to enter the cabin from the transmission.  And when the shifter handle rubber gasket is removed as it is with most aftermarket shifters, the noise problem worsens.

I include a shifter handle gasket to replace the thick stock gasket.  The shifter handle gasket is thin enough to maintain the solid feel of your shifter while insulating much of the transmission noise.  If you have a 1-piece handle (as found on the MGW handle) you will only use the base gasket.  Remember....the base gasket is the most important noise isolator.
