Classics and muscle cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s were vulnerable to rust, especially in the quarter panels. Rust prevention techniques at the factory were rather primitive and water drainage methods were often not well thought out. As a result, quarter panels could start rusting through in only a few years, particularly in places where the roads were regularly salted in winter.
