Tampa, Florida to Moose, Wyoming and back. That is what qualifies me to say that these tiresare nothing short of AMAZING. I left Dec 10th 2012 for a 1 Month trek to Vail,CO. Last year was the year of Winter storm Drako, which hit part of Missouri and Kansas very hard. Ice storm, followed by a horrid snowstorm and although driving a Range Rover with all-wheel drive, these tires were nothing short of spectacular in traction and grip. The sidewalls are a little soft when cornering hard, so you do have tone cautious, but these tires are truly spectacular.

After reaching my destination and enjoying Vail, CO, I then decided to take an extra week and make the trek to Grand Teton National Park (in Wyoming). Cutting through the mountains on roads that are not maintained in the winter time, I experienced some driving conditions that no one should have to experience in their lifetime. These tires were amazing on ice, as I climbed some roads that were nothing but sheer ice.

If you're in an area where you get a lot of various conditions - ice, sleet and snow, rest assured that these will not disappoint.

AWD and all season tires are not enough for winter. I found this out the hard way. Having said that, these tires are amazing. The ONLY way you're getting stuck is if you drive into the ditch.Drive responsibly and I promise these will get you home every time. The only time I had wheel spin is when I stomped on the pedal. A fantastic winter tire so far...........now I wonder how long they will last.

When it became clear my performance all-seasons weren't cutting it in snow/ice, I had to decide between regularwinter tires (like the WS70) and this intriguing performance-oriented variant.

While it snows enough here for it to be a problem, it's not terribly frequent. Between that and my car's performance inclinations, it seemed best to go with the LM-60.

With 1.5 winters under their [steel] belts, the LM-60s have surpassed my expectations. The improvement in snow/ice is stunning. VDC/TC/ABSgo off far less, and I feel far more in control.

They stay on their own rims to minimize mounting/unmounting stress and limit the effects of winter's corrosive wrath, but I chose not to go narrower and higher-profile with steelies. Snow just isn't enough of a factor here for such tradeoffs, so they're the same size as my regular tires, running on identical rims.

It's possible to overwhelm the grip in ice/snow, but the threshold is high. I wonder just how much higher it would be with the WS70.

There's significant noise at highway speed on dry roads, an acceptable compromise given the chunky, heavily siped tread blocks that confer snow-savviness. Apparently, regular winter tires are louder still.

Similarly acceptable is the softness/play in the handling, which registers as a "less planted" sensation, even when tracking down straight, flat, dry roads. Again, regular winter tires would presumably be worse.

Even given the performance rating, I'm not sure how much lateral stress the tread blockscan take without wearing prematurely, so I tone down my cornering.

They ride a bit more softly than my all-seasons, but comfort is inherently limited bythe low profile.

I'd rather not have to use winter tires at all. They'renoisy and take some of the fun out of driving for 4-5 months out of the year. But there are realities to the climate here, and the difference between all-seasons and winters has made me a believer. If I must run winter tires, these are theones to get.
