I have been asked by customers to put aircraft landing lights

In these 6 inch off-road housings

 

300 WATT IS EXTREME

 

do not buy the 300 watt unless you

know your system can handle the amps

you will need 2 batteries

at least an extreme heavy duty battery and alternator

it just drains your system where headlights

will dim, heater slow down, and at a idle it wants to die

 

these aircraft type landing lights

I would not leave on for long periods of time

use the normal set of off road lights

on each side of aircraft landing light

for normal use

turn the middle lamp on

for extra blast of light when needed 

 

use the aircraft type light for added brightness when needed

if your system can handle the amps

then you can leave on for longer periods

They are a sealed beam type lamp

Meaning after they burn out

you will have to replace

the glass lamp itself

I will have replacements lamps here for sale

(factory states (hour life) about 1000 hours

this also depends on vibration, etc)

I would recommend having an professional install these lights

Amperage is going to be biggest problem

300 watt draws about 25 amps per light

 

You will need a heavy duty alternator and battery

maybe 2 batteries?

These lights will drain battery of power if you come to a stop

The vehicle might die because of drain at a slow idle

with a small battery and alternator

Buying these lights I suggest you

have big heavy duty battery & alternator

 

the aircraft landing type light

should have its own relay 40 amp or bigger

put it on its own circuit

 

the aircraft landing type light

use the two 10 gauge wire's supplied

Pig tails should be at least 8-10 gauge wire from lights to relay

They should be hard soldered to terminals on back of lamp posts

a heat dissipating grease should be used on terminals

Use waterproof shrink tube or something similar

to cover pos and neg terminals on back of light

Make them waterproof at all terminals if you can

The relays should be as close to lights as possible (shorter the better)

 

I will supply 18 inches of black plastic conduit

I will send 2 wires 10 gauge each

The factory screwed up sent both in a red color

One was suppose to be black

You will have to mark them pos & neg

So you know which is which

 

The conduit is also to small

for both wires to fit in conduit

The factory also screwed this up too

It looks likes there's enough conduit

to cut in half and put one wire

Down each 1/2 of cut conduit

This will still give you about 9 inches of conduit per wire

The 2 conduit 1/2's will not fit in grommet in back of light

Just snug up to housing and tape other end so conduit does not slide down

 

Next shipment I will have them fix it right

Maybe customer does not want conduit, and wire?

prefer their own wiring stuff?

Will see what customer wants for future shipments

Always bugs to work out on a new product

　

I will send

4 relays 50 amp each

4 toggle switches

that way you have some spares

if you do not like the toggles you can get a different switch

the relays are sealed on bottom to help keep moisture out

Customer will have to provide their own wire

I will supply 2 pig-tails 10 gauge wire

for the middle aircraft type landing light

they are for pos & neg on back of lamp

one wire to relay

one wire to ground 

put relay as close to light as possible

neg ground near light or to battery

　

　　

I have tested the aircraft type landing light 

at warehouse for 1/2 hour

After I turned lights off

in about 10-15 minutes

housing and glass were warm to touch

Should cool off faster in outside environment

The 2 pieces of 10 gauge wire

 stayed warm to touch and did not over-heat

The metal housing & glass gets hot to touch

So do not touch housing and glass after use or during use

Until they cool down

They should not get that hot while driving with air cooling them down

I left on for 1/2 hour on a bench inside a closed area for testing

Any input after use will be appreciated

to make a better product on ordering next shipment

 

I'm sending

3 black grille guards

you can leave grille cover's on the 2 outer 130 watt H3 lamps 

DO NOT leave grille cover on middle light

when using light

it's plastic and will melt

that light is just to hot for plastic covers

 

At least you will have a cover while not in use

The glass is convex bulges out some

So it sticks out further than normal lamps with a h3 type bulb

The glass is probably twice as thick as regular type h3 lamps

Be careful when taking outer rings off

You do not want to drop and break glass

Do it on a bench

It's safer to assemble & disassemble

on flat firm bench

While working on light

Even once mounted

I would take light off vehicle

put on a work bench before disassembling the light

 

These aircraft type landing lamps are an experimental trial for customers

customer acknowledge's he's taking risk of this product if not wired properly

highly recommend a professional automotive

electrical technician wire these up for you

you can also wire one light to one switch on its own circuit

Here's some info on heat grease

Dielectric grease

heat sync( sink) grease

Dielectric refers to something that is essentially an electrical insulator (di = anti). The term is often used to describe the insulators used between the plates of capacitors where a high dielecrtric constant (air = 1) can increase the capacitance of the capacitor for a given weight and volume. But it is also used for many other kinds of electrical insulators. Hence, dielectric grease is a grease that is also an electrical insulator. It can be used for a variety of reasons in an electric or electronic device: lubrication, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, etc.

A heat sync compound is a mixture of substances that have a high THERMAL conductivity. It may or may not be an electric insulator. It is used to fill the gaps between a heat producing device that needs to be cooled and some kind of heat sync to allow the heat to flow into the heat sync more readily.
A dielectric grease may be and often is one of the components of this mixture as it us frequently desirable to have electric insulation between the electronic device and the heat sync to prevent shorts. Many times the heat sync compound is combined with a thin mica or other type of insulator for this purpose.

as always after installation run lights and check wires for over heating

you should be able to lay wires in hand and not get burned

if to hot your wire gauge is to small and can cause a fire

wires should stay warm only and not get hot

always use proper heavy gauge wire

these fog and driving style lights are universal and should fit any

vehicle as long as you have proper space and secure mounting pad
