Mercedes 300SL Gullwing – the return
Sat, 09 May 2009Gullwing GmbH are to create a faithful reproduction of the iconic Mercedes 300SL Gullwing The 1950s Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is an iconic car. Remembered affectionately by those old enough to remember it first time round (which I actually don’t!) and associated in the minds of car nuts with Sir Stirling Moss and his exploits in the Mille Miglia (it seems every classic Gullwing that comes on the market is somehow miraculously ‘Driven by Stirling Moss’), it is the epitome of ‘Cool Car’. The huge appeal of the classic Gullwing is also responsible for the direction of the new Mercedes SLS, which pays huge homage to the design of the original.
Land Rover Discovery 4 Landmark Limited Edition
Thu, 18 Nov 2010Land Rover Discovery 4 Landmark - The Black & White Disco It’s the time of year that car makers make an extra effort to sell some metal. Cars don’t exactly walk away from showrooms of their own accord at the start of the year – not until the new plate kicks in in March – so an extra incentive or three is in order to get punters to write a cheque. Depsite a cracking year for Land Rover they’re not resting on their laurels, and have churned out a Limited Edition Discovery – Land Rover Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark - to tempt buyers to treat themselves to the best 4×4 when the winter weather kicks in properly.
Lorenzo Ramaciotti visits RCA for 'Two of a Kind' project
Fri, 18 Oct 2013Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Fiat-Chrysler's head of global design, has visited the Royal College of Art as part of the Fiat ‘Two of a Kind' project explaining how Italian design has become world-famous in all fields in a talk themed ‘The Roots of Italian Car Design'. The ‘Two of a Kind' project asks four teams of four Vehicle Design students to design innovative exterior and interior proposals for how the Fiat 500 and the Panda might look in 2020, taking interactivity, digital interface, sustainability and global appeal into account. Maserati brought along a Quattroporte, a GranTurismo Sport as well as an Alfa Giulietta Sportiva to complement his talk in the hope it would encourage students to consider what the carmaker believes are the three concepts of the legacy of Italian car design: sportiness-dynamism; elegance-balance; and character-personality.
