Europe's Car of the Year 2011 shortlist announced

Tue, 02 Nov 2010

The 41 contenders for Europe's 2011 Car of the Year trophy have been whittled down to the final seven as the European CoTY shortlist is announced today. The winner will be voted for by 59 of Europe's most influential motoring journalists, including two CAR writers: editor Phil McNamara and European editor Georg Kacher. The 2010 winner - by just 10 points ahead of the Toyota iQ - was the Volkswagen Polo. Like the Eurovision Song Contest, Car of the Year has proved controversial in the past with accusations of block-voting and blind patriotism, yet the award remains one of the most prestigious in the motor industry.

Maserati refreshes Quattroporte

Tue, 24 Jun 2008

By Ben Whitworth First Official Pictures 24 June 2008 08:51 Maserati has given its Quattroporte a mid-life refresh and a power boost. The new flagship Quattroporte S borrows the 424bhp 4.7-litre V8 from the GranTurismo S, while the standard Quattroporte retains the existing 393bhp 4.2-litre engine from before, with both hooked up to the ZF six-speed automatic transmission introduced two years ago. No, fortunately Maserati has decided not to tamper with the Quattroporte’s styling – five years and 15,000 sales from launch and the Pininfarina-penned saloon still looks superb.

Santa's sleigh by Jaguar By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 14 December 2009 10:01 CAR has resurrected our Christmas theme from last year, commissioning some top car designers to sketch out their vision for Santa's sleigh. And our first festive treat is this new Jaguar sledge, an intriguing look at a Big Cat on its way to the next chimney top.The bright red sky scooter was designed by 25-year-old Jaguar exterior designer Thomas Smith. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in June 2009 and joined Jaguar this summer, after a placement in Coventry's advanced design studio where he penned a luxury flagship coupé blue-sky project. His version of Santa's sleigh reveals a push-me-pull-you, very modern take on what a Jag could be.
