Maserati celebrates birthday with GranTurismo MC Centennial Editions

Maserati unveiled the GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition at the New York auto show this week, following up the successful debut of the Alfieri concept a month ago at the Geneva motor show. The GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition, created as part of Maserati's 100th anniversary celebrations this year, will be available both in coupe and convertible form. The Maserati GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition coupe and convertible will be powered by the same 4.7-liter V8 engine found in the MC Stradale, on which the Centennial is based.

Suzuki is on a mission to break into the car makers’ top ten, raising production from 2.4 to 3 million, and it needs a decent Mondeo-sized saloon, hatch and estate to help do it. The Kizashi launched at Frankfurt will be the saloon and hatch in 2009; this car - the imaginatively monickered Kizashi 2 - will be the estate a year later.

Motor Trend has taken a look inside the studio walls of CALTY to produce a documentary of the design development of a star of last week's Detroit auto show, the Toyota FT-1 concept. Toyota's Californian design studio has been responsible for some of the company's best recent work including the Lexus LF-LC concept. In this episode of Downshift, Motor Trend spoke to some of those behind the FT-1's design – Kevin Hunter, CALTY Research president, studio chief designer Alex Shen and William Chergosky, interior chief designer.
