This Chevy 383 crate engine by Tuff Dawg Engines would be EXCELLENT for just about any street car, pickup truck, 4X4, or RV. With 335HP @ 4500rpm and 415ft lbs of torque @ 3500rpm it has great all around power, and works well with either a manual or automatic transmission. This engine has enough cam to let you know it has good all around power but not too big as to need to change to a different stall speed converter. The included intake manifold comes with both bolt patterns to run either a Holley 750 carb or equivalent Quadrajet carb (carb not included). This engine will run on leaded or unleaded pump fuel.

The balanced rotating assembly (typically includes crankshaft, pistons, rings, connecting rods, rod bearings, and balancer) featured in this engine:

  • 3.750" stroke nodular iron crank
  • 5.7" forged rods with ARP rod bolts
  • 9.2 to 1 compression flat top pistons

More special features of this engine include:

  • Deck head gasket surface on block to ensure a good seal
  • New CompCams hydraulic flat tappet high performance cam
  • 76cc heads with 1.940"Int/1.500"Exh valves
  • New 1.250" high performance springs set up to match cam
  • New High temperature valve seals
  • New Spiral-type valve guides
  • New Screw-in rocker studs with guide plates
  • New Steel rocker arms with balls and nuts
  • New Hardened push rods
  • New Perfect Circle rings
  • New Double row timing set
  • New Oil pump with welded big pickup screen and steel drive shaft and steel guide
  • New Brass expansion plugs
  • New Edelbrock (non-egr) Dual Plane Performer aluminum intake
  • All parts are painted separately before assembly for that show quality look

This engine comes completely assembled with oil pan, driver side chrome dipstick and tube, chrome bowtie timing cover, harmonic balancer, chrome valve covers, and an Edelbrock (non-egr) Dual Plane Performer aluminum intake manifold.

Merc-powered Corvette ZR-1 featured at Mercury Marine Museum

Chevy's LT5 engine was one of the most celebrated in Corvette history. In 1988 it generated 375 hp under the hood of the then-new ZR-1 from 5.7-liters of displacement. It wouldn't have been possible without Mercury Marine.

Used car sales hit record high

USED CAR SALES were at their highest in five years in 2013. There was a 0.9% increase in used car trades, with more than 6.8 million exchanges of ownership recorded, though this is still some way behind the previous record high of 7.8 million used car sales in 2008. Analysis from Experian shows cars aged nine years old or over were among the strongest performers in the used car market, with sales up 6% in 2013 compared to the previous year.

I will take it to work all week, including Wednesday when I go to Santa Monica to drive a Nissan Leaf electric car. I wonder how they'll take to seeing a competitor in the parking lot. Not far enough to worry about range, though I will look for a charging spot in Santa Monica.
