How to Use and Upgrade to

GM Gen III LS-Series Powertrain Control Systems

Without a doubt, GM’s LS-series engines are very popular. Enthusiasts are either modifying their cars that were factory equipped with these efficient and powerful engines (supported by a robust aftermarket) or converting their vintage muscle cars to run with these engines. Of course, with technology comes complexity. To get the maximum performance and efficiency out of any modern engine, you must have a solid understanding of the technology involved and how to make the most of it.

How to Use and Upgrade to GM Gen III LS-Series Powertrain Control Systems thoroughly examines the benefits of this robust and efficient control system. Do you want to convert from a cable throttle to an electronic throttle, and make systems such as cruise control integrate? Do you want to eliminate the Optispark distributor from your LT1/LT4? Perhaps convert your Gen I small-block to distributor-less ignition? Or convert to universal OBD-II diagnostics? Do you want to have an affordable control system to run fuel injection, ignition timing, cooling fans, air conditioning, and electronic overdrive transmissions while swapping all of this into your classic muscle car?

Author Mike Noonan covers all of these applications and more. Implementing a GM Series III PCM-based control system not only affords you great flexibility and tune-ability, but it can be accomplished significantly cheaper than most aftermarket alternatives. If you are planning any of these complex swaps or just looking to thoroughly understand the nuances of modern GM control systems, this book is a vital addition to your technical library.

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid – details

Fri, 11 Sep 2009

The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will show at Frankfurt The principle difference between the standard Prius and this new plug-in version is – you’ll never guess – that it adds the ability to charge the Prius’ batteries through a domestic outlet. The Prius can be fully recharged in around 1.5 hours, and the new lithium-ion battery pack – which replaces the old nickel-metal hydride pack in the regular Prius – is more compact and of higher output. Toyota claim that the plug-in Prius can cover round 12.5 miles on a full charge in pure ‘Electric Mode’, which is around double that of the normal Prius.

Peel P50 and Trident back in production – the world’s smallest car

Mon, 23 Jan 2012

Peel P50 and Peel Trident - backed by James Caan The Peel P50 and Trident – the Isle of Man’s contribution to the car world – are now back in production with an electric motor. Top Gear fans will probably remember Jeremy Clarkson taking the Peel P50 – billed as the world’s smallest car ever – for a trolley round London and the BBC (we’ve published the video below to remind you). Now, with the world obsessed with small cars, a bunch of businessmen – backed by former Dragons’ Den Dragon James Caan – are putting the Peel P50 and Trident back in to production.

Updated: Lexus LF-LC Concept

Wed, 04 Jan 2012

The Lexus LF-LC concept – a four-seat coupe that will make its debut at the NAIAS in Detroit – has been further unveiled in these latest shots. Designed in Toyota's Catly studio in Newport Beach, California, the show car appears to develop Lexus' L-Finesse design language, while retaining familiar features such as the huge grille first seen on the LF-Gh concept and subsequent GS sedan production car. The upward flick of the windowline into the C-pillar is also reminiscent of the flagship LFA.
