Starting problems occur when the fuel accumulator is deffective.
http://www.users.bigpond.com/INTERJECT/K…
The purpose of the fuel accumulator is to maintain pressure in the fuel system to prevent fuel vaporization while the vehicle is not in
use. The system has several check valves inside that close, sealing off the fuel return lines to the tank. When the accumulator gets tired or fails, you will notice running and hot re-start problems.

Remember, your accumulator is 25+ years old, diaphragm may go any minute and spring is tired. So, the question is "WHEN it will fail", and not "IF".
1986-88 Esprit TURBO Tips
As you probably know, the 1988 Turbo has a lot of common systems with 1986 and 87 HCI Turbo. Simply speaking, it is an S3 in the Stevens body. All of these cars are equipped w/Bosch CIS (Continous Injection System), sooner or later, will develop rust in the tanks. Modern (pump) gasoline with ethanol is very corrosive, your tanks are 24 years old and were never designed to store such an acidic liquid. 86-88 cars are very nice, but most of the time, Bosch injection system is misunderstood. Bosch CIS K-Jetronic injection system is pretty reliable, BUT it is very sensitive to contamination and therefore pressure fluctuations.
REMEMBER: The worst enemy of the Bosch CIS injection system is DIRT, varnish deposits, ethanol and prolonged storage.
Above applies to any Porsche, Saab, Mercedes, DMC, VW, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley equipped with Bosch CIS K-,KE-,L-, LH-, Jetronic and Motronic injection systems.

Commenting on the Superb’s ability, the judges remarked: ‘With a loading limit of 100kg on the roof, 80kg on the towball and a boot that scored maximum marks, it’s a very tough act to follow.
