DECIDING WHICH EXTENDER IS RIGHT FOR YOU

To maximize the chances of the Extender fitting properly MEASURE THE WIDTH OF THE METAL TONGUE of your car’s seat belt that you would like extended. If it matches the details above, this is a good option. However, the best way to be sure is to read on.

EXTENDER TYPE FOR SPECIFIC CAR MAKES, MODELS AND YEARS

Send us your vehicle's make, model, year and the seat you want extended, and we'll let you know if there's an Extender option for your car. If there's not, we'll ask you to send us a picture of the seat belt's metal tongue, and we'll use that to make a customized recommendation for your vehicle.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES:

  • Do not use the extender in a fashion for which it was not intended. Please read these safety notes and abide by them; if any issue exists/persists, cease using your extender immediately. Depending on the Extender model/style you own, all of these may not apply.
  • Extenders are only for use with retractable seat belts. Do not use unless physically required to wear the vehicle’s safety belt.
  • Never use when lap strap will not adjust snugly on hips. An Extender is not designed to give you “slack” in your seat belt. It must be used in a way that the seat belt is still taught.
  • Make sure your Extender’s latch clicks each time you buckle it. If you think it did not latch, unbuckle and re-click the Extender. If this happens several times, depress the button of the extender to ensure that the latch is available for reception and try again.
  • Before each use of the Extender, make sure that metal tongues unbuckle easily from receptacles.
  • Always test the Extender by buckling it in and tugging sharply on the seat belt shoulder strap to ensure that it still “locks up” with quick movements. Tug sharply everywhere to ensure that the Extender is locked in and the proper fit for your vehicle.
  • Do not force the metal tongue of the Extender or your car’s belt into the receptacle of the other. Only buckle if both sides fit smoothly.
  • Do not modify the Extender.
  • If the stitching on the webbing is/seems loose or frayed (other than the ends of tied knots) or the integrity of the Extender is/seems compromised in any way, stop using the Extender immediately. Inspect regularly.
  • Make sure you maintain access to your car’s seat belt buckle at all times in case you need to access it in an emergency. If a seat belt or Extender release button does not function properly, stop using the Extender immediately.
  • Never use when intersection of lap and upper torso straps (measured along the lap strap) is less than 6 inches from an imaginary center line of occupant’s body.
  • If you are pregnant, do not place the receptacle of the extender over your stomach. Ensure that it is well to the side of your body.
  • In almost all cases, when the Extender’s metal tongue is buckled into the car’s seat belt’s receptacle, the alarm mechanism that warns you to buckle up will be considered engaged. That means it will not ding while the Extender is buckled.
  • Incorrect use of extender may result in serious injury.

LA Auto Show Design Challenge to tackle future CHP vehicles

Wed, 05 Sep 2012

When one thinks of Los Angeles, the near future and police vehicles, one particular conveyance comes to mind — the Syd Mead-designed Spinner from Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. Perhaps cognizant that the time of the film's dystopian setting, 2019, is less than seven years away, the L.A auto show Design Challenge group has set a date of 2025. What will California look like 13 years in the future?

Toyota ditches Corolla badge

Sun, 30 Jul 2006

By Phil McNamara Motor Industry 30 July 2006 12:16 The Corolla brand is going the same way as Oldsmobile, Jif and Marathon – to the knacker's yard. It may be the most venerable nameplate in motoring history, but Toyota is ditching the Corolla badge in western Europe. The latest incarnation of the Japanese family car will be unveiled at the Paris motor show in September 2006, but it won't be wearing the Corolla logo.
