Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger recalled to fix electric problem

Chrysler is recalling almost 120,000 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans from the 2011 and 2012 model years to fix an electrical-system problem. The problem is with a fuse in the power-distribution center, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the power center overheats it could lead to a loss of antilock brakes and electronic stability control, which could lead to a crash.

TOP GEAR star James May must be getting Meccano for Christmas because he is using the classic toy to build a motorbike and sidecar to race the Isle of Man TT circuit for a new show. The episode of his Toy Stories series, called The Motorcycle Diaries, sees May get to grips with a construction kit to try to build a vehicle capable of carrying him and co-star Oz Clarke around the 37-mile course. In previous episodes James May and his team have built a giant slot-car racing track, a full size Airfix replica of a Spitfire and a giant toy glider.

Ford Transit van gets five-cylinder turbodiesel

The full-size Ford Transit van that replaces the E-series Econoline in late 2013 will have a turbocharged five-cylinder diesel in its powertrain lineup. Today Ford uses the 3.2-liter engine in the Ranger pickup sold in international markets. The engine, which wears Ford's Power Stroke marketing name for diesel engines, is built in South Africa and will be exported to the Transit assembly plant near Kansas City, Mo.
