Core Shifters EXCLUSIVE!!  Short throw shifter equivalent to Ford Racing M-7210-M (same as Hurst Billet Plus shifter 391-5033 but with 8550 stick w/ vertical knob mount - instead of 0015 w/ angled knob mount).  This is a custom Core Shifters base that contains a readily available Hurst Billet Plus component set (supplied by Hurst) inside a custom housing (not produced by Hurst, but 100% made in USA).  It functions exactly the same as any regular Hurst Billet Plus shifter but costs less.  It does not have stops and does not need them - all modern internal rail trans have internal stops.  However if you wish, you can add stops for $20 more; email to request - this must be requested prior to purchase, it cannot be retrofitted.  Kit includes a Hurst chrome stick and knob, dust boot cover, mounting bolts, and installation instructions.  Throw reduction should be around 40%.

This kit ONLY fits the following applications, only with 5 speed:

  • 1983-2000 MUSTANG (ALL MODELS, 1996-2000 V8 specify T45 w/ payment)
  • 2001-2004 V6 MUSTANG
  • Early 2001 MUSTANG V8 with T45 (will not fit late 2001-04 V8 w/ TR3650, see my other listings)
  • 1983-1986 MERCURY CAPRI
  • 1983-1988 THUNDERBIRD TURBO COUPE
  • 1983-1986 MERCURY COUGAR XR-7
  • FORD RACING COBRA Z-SPEC T5

It does not matter what Mustang model you have (LX, GT, Cobra, Saleen, SVO, etc), all that matters is that it is a 5 speed and fits in the above model years.  World Class or Z-spec T5 trans that fit these cars as original would also use this shifter.

If you have a T45 (1996-2001 V8) you must indicate that with payment for proper component kit.  If you have a 2001, be sure your vehicle ID plate trans code does not contain the letter K which means TR3650 trans.  I sell a similar shifter for mid-2001 to 2004 V8 Mustang 5 speed w/ TR3650 trans, see my other listings.

DESIGNED FOR USE WITH STOCK CONSOLE BOOT, there is no need for additional parts.   Kit includes Core short shifter base, chrome stick, classic knob, hardware, and instructions.   Also available with black knob, specify with payment.  I do have Hurst console trim plates for 1979-93 models, see my other listings for complete kits (normally sold with 8550 stick, also available with 0015 stick shown here by request).

This Core Shifter shares many of the same superior features & components found in Hurst Billet Plus Shifters, integrated into a unique, exclusive base assembly:

  • Forged heat-treated billet steel gear selector
  • Precision-ground stainless steel pivot ring
  • Self-centering cross-gate bias springs with heat treated spring seats
  • Glass-reinforced polyamide pivot cup insert with steel wear clips
  • Rubber oil control seal with steel retaining ring
  • 6061-T6 extruded aluminum housing with Spirolox steel support ring
  • Phosphate-coated laser-cut steel base-plate and cover
  • Vibration-resistant serrated flange head steel retaining bolts
  • Optional adjustable positive gear stops (extra charge)
  • Rubber dust cover boot
  • Pan-head allen bolts with toothed lockwashers to mount stick
  • Traditional forged billet steel triple chrome-plated Hurst stick
  • Classic Hurst engraved shift knob
  • High quality and outstanding value!

STICK INFO:  Hurst # 538-8550, approx. 8" tall, bends 2.5" rearward - curves back to vertical near top for vertical knob mount.  It was designed specifically for 1983-2004 Mustang.  Knob threads are 3/8"-16, stock 12mm knobs will not fit.

KNOB INFO:  Hurst # 163-0025 (white), an OE molded replacement knob (included in many Hurst kits) with shift pattern on top and "Hurst" on sides.  1 7/8" diameter, recessed brass thread master, jam nut included.  Engraved knob w/ plain sides also available by request (163-0008).

Saab finds a buyer

Wed, 13 Jun 2012

Bankrupt automaker Saab has found a buyer. But instead of picking up where the Swedish firm left off, the buyer plans to use Saab's resources for the production of electric cars. The new owners of Saab, a Chinese-Swedish investment group with Japanese backing called National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS), did not release details on how much it paid for Saab or how much it planned to invest in the company.

Fifth Gear on TV – the Return

Tue, 23 Mar 2010

Fifth Gear Returns to TV in April with a new format Fifth Gear was everyone’s second favourite car show on TV. And that second favourite label seemed to be its undoing when FIVE decided last year to ditch the show after it failed to make any impact on the ratings against everyone’s favourite car show on TV – Top Gear. But FIVE (channel five if we ditch the trendy CAPITALS) have had a change of heart, done a syndication deal or two for Fifth Gear and are putting together a new series (they’ve actually commissioned two of them) which should hit TV screens at the end of next month.

Video: Buick Invicta

Thu, 24 Apr 2008

General Motor's Buick brand is blossoming in China, so the automaker chose the largest Chinese Auto Show this year to unveil its latest concept: the Invicta. Unlike the Riviera concept shown in Shanghai last year, the Invicta is slated for production soon given the level of refinement we saw when we viewed the car in Beijing. And unlike some market-specific new cars unveiled at the show, the Invicta will make its way to other markets across the globe. Click on the image on the left to see a video of the development and the designers who worked on the Invicta concept car.
