Losing points because the judges say your cars' headlight dimmer switch grommet isn't original?  This is a rather common situation.  Many judging books INSIST that all correct/original GM 4591475 grommets were made from material that feels like soft pliant rubber vs. harder injection molded plastic.

Personally, I don't think so. Why? Well, as best I can tell part number 4591475 was a purchased part meaning multiple manufacturers were qualified to supply it.

As I walk the scrap yards to gather factory originals from other GM cars and trucks from this era, MANY that I find ARE made from hard-to-the-touch plastic.  So I suspect we're dealing with an urban myth that all Corvette original grommets were rubber vs. plastic.

But, you're bidding here on a used original 4591475 grommet that's made from soft rubber like material. Flip these over and you typically find either no manufacturer ID marks or an "M" emboss. The "M" emboss agrees with the mark commonly seen on carpet push in fasteners from the era.  This one has no marks.

Bottom line, why fight City Hall, over what's factory correct/original? You can solve the point loss problem here and give the judges what they want to see.

Eartha Kitt may have asked ‘Santa Baby’ for a ’54 convertible for Christmas, but when it comes to the rest of us, it would appear that British is best. That’s according to a survey of 55,000 petrolheads by airport and online car competitions company, Best of the Best. In the poll, not only did the Range Rover claim top spot, it also grabbed third and fourth position, with only the Aston Martin Vantage stopping the luxury off-roader from making it a perfect one, two, three.
