Here's a nice used original headlight ring & cup set as installed on '60L-63 Corvettes.  The same part numbers were used for 1958-60E cars, but the tooling changed making the naked cups visually different.  Used originals that aren't badly rusted, scratched or dented are getting harder to find each day!

By part number, the set consists of four 5948828 SS lamp retaining rings and individual RH inner, RH outer, LH inner, LH outer lamp cups (also called 'rings' in GM parlance) with PN's 5948826, 5948824, 5948827, and 5948825 respectively.  You also get the ring to cup attaching screws.

The early version of the cups had discrete holes for the square glass bosses on the rear of the lamps to sit in.  Tooling changed to cost reduce the parts on later versions of the cup.  There, two 'slits' were cut into the cup and the steel was pressed back into a 'strap' that provided an alignment recess for the lamp bosses.

Exactly when the tooling change occurred is fuzzy.  And, it's possible the two different stamping tools ran side by side for a while creating a mixture of versions.

The four cups are distinguished by their R1, R2, L1 and L2 emboss identifiers which correspond to the above cup PN sequence.  You can also, think of the emboss as meaning: R1= RH single filament, R2= RH dual filament, Etc.

Shipping calculator presumes USPS priority mail.  Buyer to pay $2 handling fee plus freight at cost (you can define an alternate method of shipment).  Sale to complete within 10-days of auction close.

Maserati Ghibli teased ahead of Shanghai Motor Show debut

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

Maserati appear to be teasing the arrival of the smaller Quattroporte – the Maserati Ghibli – at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month. Maserati is on a bit of a new model rush at the moment, and it looks like the tease photo they’ve released today is for the new Maserati Ghibli. The Maserati Ghibli isn’t going to be a sporty coupe – as you might reasonably expect – but a cut-down version of the new Quattroporte, designed to take on the performance versions of Europe’s executive express cars – think BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and Jaguar XF.

Saab struggles with bills – Vladimir says it’s all fine

Thu, 31 Mar 2011

The Saab production line grinds to a halt as components run out I think we all hoped that after the long, painful transition from GM ownership in to new hands at Spyker that things would settle down and Saab would get back to making cars instead of headlines. But it seems not. Just a few days ago we had news that lifetime Saab man and CEO of Saab Jan Åke Jonsson is to step down in May, together with the news that Saab lost €140 million in 2010.
