Lifters) Cylinder Head Dates: A-30-70 (January 30, 1970) & A-28-70 (January 28, 1970) Intake Date: A-28-70 (January 28, 1970) Water Pump Date: I-19-9 (September 19, 1969). Correct for 1970 Corvettes (LS5 454/390HP, 4 Speed, Rochester 4bbl) Please look at all of the pictures below all of this text, there are tons of pics, SO KEEP ON SCROLLING DOWN! This engine setup is from a 1970 Vette with 82,965 miles on the odometer, and judging by the condition of the parts, it's definitely NOT 182,965. The sale includes the bare block with main caps, steel crankshaft, bare cylinder head pair, set of 8 pistons/rods, intake manifold, water pump, and harmonic balancer.
BLOCK: We took this to our local machine shop where we paid to have it magnafluxed and inspected, if there were any issues they would have told us. It checked out good with no cracks. It has a uncut standard size bore. The cylinder walls are still VERY nice looking, please look at the pictures. It has a slight ridge at the top of the cylinders. It has some very light surface rust on the back of cylinder #7 & #8 (pics). The deck surfaces are in good condition with no pitting or damage. The mount holes and threads are all in good shape with no damage or thread repairs that I could find. It comes with the original windage tray and the 4 studded main cap bolts to mount it. The nuts for the windage tray are not included.
CRANKSHAFT: - This original 7416 forged steel crankshaft is also in good shape.
- The rod and main bearings are both standard, uncut size.
- There are no deep scratches or dings that I could find, the journals are all very nice looking.
- There is some rust on the rear flange (pics).
- The old brass pilot bushing is still installed and will need to be replaced.
- It includes the balancer bolt.
CYLINDER HEADS: - These original Bare 290 heads are in good, rebuildable shape.
- They both have some light surface rust on the outside (pics).
- They will both need to be hot tanked, shot blasted, machined, and rebuilt with new components.
- The combustion chambers are very clean looking.
- The "X" markings on the bottom of the heads indicate bad valve guides (pics), but they all should be serviced.
- There is one valve guide that looks like it had a sleeve installed but the outer original guide body cracked (pics), it will need to be repaired.
- They are bare and only come with the rocker studs and pushrod guide plates.
Pistons: - The 8 original GM cast aluminum pistons are all in great shape.
- The connecting rods are still pressed on in good condition and are complete with caps, bolts, and nuts.
- There is one piston that was removed from the rod (pics).
INTAKE MANIFOLD: - The original intake manifold is also in good condition with no cracks, pitting, or damage.
- The belly pan has some surface rust on it (pics) and is attached with new rivets.
- The mount holes and threads are all in good condition with no damage.
- The mating surfaces are all in good condition.
BALANCER: - The original harmonic balancer is in good condition with no rust or pitting.
- The rubber isolator ring is dry and cracked (pics), it should be rebuilt.
- The snout has no grooves or damage on it.
- There is some aftermarket timing tape on the outside diameter (pics).
SUMMARY: - This is a hard to find setup, these 215 blocks are getting harder to find these days, especially standard bore and as matched & complete as this one is coming.
- All of these components will need to be taken to a machine shop and re-machined/rebuilt before being reassembled.
- We already took it all and had it checked out for cracks, sizing, and any other issues, everything checked out good.
- This can be restamped for your Corvette, Chevelle, Nove etc.
- The 512 block was also used for the 427 engine if the right crankshaft was used. And since it's dated for Nov. of 1969 it can be correct for many late 1969 427 applications, including the 390HP 1969 Vette.
- It can also be converted to a 4 bolt main setup, I have an extra set of original 4 bolt caps available for an additinal cost.
- After the pictures were taken, I sprayed the cylinder walls and crank with an anti-corrosion protective to prevent any further rust.
- This setup will be shipped through freight shipping, there is a $75 fee if a forklift is needed to unload.
This will be a great starting point for your 1970 Big Block Corvette, please look at the pictures below. If you have any questions please contact us. Jaguar C-X75
Tonight in Paris Jaguar has revealed the C-X75 Concept, a car so glorious and innovative it could very well have stolen the Paris Motor Show even before it officially starts. Not designed to be a production car – but if they don’t do something close to it they should be shot – the Jaguar C-X75 offers what could be considered the ultimate range-extender hybrid. With a pair of mini gas turbines charging a bank of plug-in Li-Ion batteries which in turn power a quartet of electric motors, the C-X75 produces a massive 780bhp, offers a 0-60mph of just over 3 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph.

This is the new Porsche 918 Spyder, and it’s just been unveiled on the eve of the 2013 Frankfurt motor show. The Porsche 918 Spyder is the successor to the legendary Carrera GT, uses a race-derived engine, hits 62mph in 2.8 seconds, and will reach 214mph. But the Porsche 918 Spyder is also very different to the Carrera GT, because it’s a hybrid and promises Toyota Prius-like levels of parsimony.

The Mazda Demio facelift - that's Mazda2 to me and you
We’re back to the old story of car reveals for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) pointing at reveals to come in overseas markets, with the reveal of the facelifted Mazda Demio telling us all we need to know about the next Mazda 2 Facelift. Although the Mazda2 has had the car surgeon’s knife lightly applied to freshen things up a bit, the big news is the oily bits, where Mazda are busy showing us that there are better alternatives to frugal cars than electric or hybrid. The new Mazda 2 gets the direct injection, 1.3 litre SkyActiv engine which features a raft of technology to squeeze every last drop of energy out of the petrol it uses, together with a CVT ‘box which does the decent thing and offers a seven-speed manual mode.
