SA DESIGN CARTECH: Junior Stock: Stock Class Drag Racing 1964-1971
In the 1950s and 1960s, drag racing was an exciting new sport that anyone with a car could participate in. Based on their equipment, the participants' cars were assigned to specific classes. This structure made it possible to compete against others with similar equipment, and for the most talented tuners and drivers to become National Champions and/or World Record holders in their class. This class format encouraged amateur participation on a level never before seen. Drag racing was a popular hobby for many, and their competition vehicles were typically warmed-over street cars that had been strategically upgraded to the limits of their specific class. This made drag racing wildly popular and amazingly attainable. The end of the class structure meant a great loss in the sport's popularity, but these amazing times will never be forgotten. Stock-class drag racing is celebrated in this new book, with hundreds of vintage color photographs showing the way it used to be. If you were a fan or participant back in the day, or are a lover of vintage drag cars, Junior Stock: Stock Class Drag Racing 1964-1971 is a book you'll thoroughly enjoy. Video: Jaguar XF clay model gets axed
Thu, 07 Jun 2012Jaguar recently gave a trio of clay modelers the task of deconstructing the original model of their carefully and lovingly sculpted XF sedan by handing them axes and sledgehammers in front of a camera crew. The modelers – dressed in black t-shirts and jeans – are shown taking apart the model piece by piece, perhaps taking out their frustration with designers who feel the need to get a little too hands-on with their artisan handiwork. Perhaps some other car manufacturers could using this as inspiration to destroy some of their cars, maybe – naming no names – before reaching production.
New Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet and Estate delayed
Tue, 26 May 2009The new Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet - now put back until Spring 2010 Mercedes has done a pretty good job on updating the E-Class, and its been receiving good comments all round. But Mercedes has lost the momentum a bit with the revelation that the E-Class Coupe is actually based on a C-Class chassis. Not that that alone is reason for complaint, but there was a big hoo-haa around the nomenclature for the E-Class Coupe (should it have been the CLK?) so it was a bit disingenuous of Mercedes to reveal the Coupe’s roots after its reveal.
Volkswagen's Golf grabs Car of the Year award
Tue, 15 Oct 2013THE VOLKSWAGEN GOLF has been crowned the Scottish Car of the Year, the first time VW has lifted the title north of the border. Awarded by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, the Golf won the title thanks to its choice of body styles, frugal engines, quality and excellent driving manners. It beat off strong competition from the likes of the Range Rover Sport, Jaguar F-type and Renault Clio, which won their respective categories.
