These were the nicest woods I had at the time. The solid Curly Maple edge came from a board I found online. It's perfect grain consistency and figuring with no dark spots is very unusual. I chose more of the same for the ring and light compass points. There is Cherry behind the points and the border is Bubinga Burl with Paua Abalone strips. The dark points are figured Pearwood. I accented the points with thin dark Rosewood strips. The background is rich grained Ribbon Sapeli. The seashell inlays are Greenheart Abalone, Paua Abalone and Pacific Oyster Mother of Pearl.  This compass took about 8 months on and off to finish. Completed September 2013, it stands 54" tall / wide as a wall medallion and 42" X 42" as a table. It has 2 flood coats of ultra clear epoxy for a durable mirror gloss but has no uv protection. See my website at Custom Nautical Art dot com. Thanks for looking, Bill.

Wed, 18 Aug 2010

The Kia Pop will make its world debut at the Paris motor show, but the Korean manufacturer has released these digital renders of the electric city car concept in advance. At three meters long, the Pop is similar in length to the Toyota iQ. It features a wave-like front bench seat making room for a single rear occupant behind the front passenger. Designed by a team headed by Gregory Guillaume at Kia's European design center in Frankfurt under Peter Schreyer, the Pop mixes the Sportage's strong surfacing with a playful lozenge-shaped DLO.

Now, with the world obsessed with small cars, a bunch of businessmen – backed by former Dragons’ Den Dragon James Caan – are putting the Peel P50 and Trident back in to production.
