Dainese D-Air Misano Perforated Race Suit

The Dainese D Air Misano racesuit uses the Intelligent Protection System which combines a wireless air bag system with highly evolved microprocessor technology to increase the level of protection available to motorcyclists. Internal sensors and a GPS signal distinguish the factors inherent in an accident and inflates the air bag, adding extra protection to the collarbone area. GPS allows rider telemetry via USB port, including lap times, maximum speed and trajectory plotting with instantaneous speed and acceleration. All the electronic components are housed within the Misano's speed hump.

In the event of a violent crash, D-air can trigger in less than 15 milliseconds. When the crash dynamics are less sudden, the sophisticated triggering algorithm assesses conditions and can decide upon a slightly longer triggering time. D-air works in synergy with existing body armor in race leathers, shielding the shoulders and collar bones in the rider's body. D-air reduces the risk of direct helmet impact on the collar bones, limits and reduces helmet movement during rolling. Protection is achieved without compromising the ergonomics and comfort of racing leathers.

Tests carried out in accordance with the current European standards for shoulder armor (EN 1621-1/97) show that D-air protection reduces the force transferred by over 85% compared with traditional composite body armor. D-air is the intelligent airbag-based protection for motorcyclists’ safety on the track.

Europe's Car of the Year 2011 shortlist announced

Tue, 02 Nov 2010

The 41 contenders for Europe's 2011 Car of the Year trophy have been whittled down to the final seven as the European CoTY shortlist is announced today. The winner will be voted for by 59 of Europe's most influential motoring journalists, including two CAR writers: editor Phil McNamara and European editor Georg Kacher. The 2010 winner - by just 10 points ahead of the Toyota iQ - was the Volkswagen Polo. Like the Eurovision Song Contest, Car of the Year has proved controversial in the past with accusations of block-voting and blind patriotism, yet the award remains one of the most prestigious in the motor industry.

Nissan’s Juke-R vs Supercars irritating video trailers

Tue, 01 May 2012

Nissan's Juke-R vs Supercars Nissan are trailing a video of the Juke-R racing supercars in Dubai with a frustrating string of very short video trailers. Back in January we published an amateur video of the bonkers Nissan Juke-R racing a whole heap of supercars on a street track at the International Arena in Dubai and it was an interesting race, even if the production values were pretty much non-existent. But the real deal on the day was a professional video shoot by Nissan to allow a bit more Juke-R fairy dust to be sprinkled round the Interwebs with a slick and polished race story video, with Gran Turismo gamer Lucus Ordonez pitting the Nissan Juke-R against Salah Salahuddin’s supercar collection - which they’ve finally got round to editing.
