UNIVERSAL DIESEL ALTERNATOR TACHOMETER INTERFACE

from Dakota Digital

DSL-1E

Have you swapped a diesel engine into your car or truck and no longer have a tachometer signal? This handy device picks up the tach signal off the "W" terminal of the alternator that is found on some diesel engines, and then allows you to calibrate the signal to match your stock or aftermarket tach!

Here is Dakota Digital's Description of this item:

The DSL-1E Universal Diesel Tachometer Interface accepts an RPM signal from several different sources and converts the information into a tachometer signal for a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder, gas-engine tachometer. Able to receive a signal from the "W" terminal found on some diesel alternators, a timing gear (crank trigger) signal or a fly-wheel sensor, the DSL-1E is fully adjustable to allow for calibration to your gauge of choice. An onboard digital readout and integrated switches allow for push-button calibration.

Unit measures 4" x 2" x 1" and is designed to be mounted inside a vehicle.

Product not compatible with '86-91 VW Vanagon's and other similar models.

FAQ - Will It Work on...

Unfortunately we cannot test every possible combination, but here is what you need to find out to see if this item will work for your application.

DSL-1 vs DSL-2 Diesel Applications:

The DSL-1 diesel tach adapter is specifically for engines that have a “W” terminal on the alternator (usually a Bosch alternator). Since we don’t have an exhaustive list of vehicles this applies to, you will have to find out about your car to know if it will work or not. Again, this is only for analog tachometers.

The DSL-2 is the DSL-1 box with the addition of a 2-wire magnetic sensor that can read the teeth on the flywheel, thus generating a tachometer signal. This can be used on any application, including diesel engines, where you need to generate a tach signal. This output is the same, it only works on analog tachometers.

For dual ECU engine swaps for cars with CAN BUS gauges (350z, E46, IS300 etc). – In some cases, the easiest way to solve CAN BUS gauges not working is to keep the original engine ECU as WELL as the new engine ECU. The new engine ECU runs the engine, but some signals are fed to the original ECU which can send the information via CAN BUS to the stock gauges (in particular the tachometer signal). This is done by using an SGI-5 “speed” adapter (not an SGI-8 or DSL-1) to read the crank sensor speed (magnetic or hall effect) and then convert that signal to one that the original ECU understands. This requires advanced wiring and unfortunately we do not provide that service, but you can speak to the guys at Tweak’d Performance about wiring harnesses for engine swaps.

This listing is for the DSL-1 only, but you can purchase the SGI-5, SGI-8 or DSL-2 separately in our store if you need those instead.

Electric Cars are 5 years away – said Ford in 1966

Electric Cars are 5 years away - said Ford in 1966 It’s 1966 and the Ford Cortina MK I (pictured above) is selling like hot cakes, a sure indicator of a prosperous new age, and just about to be replaced by the MK II Cortina. But Ford had news up its sleeve about the future of cars. The future is the electric car, they proudly proclaimed in 1966, and it will be a reality in five years time.

Lamborghini Egoista concept

Mon, 13 May 2013

To celebrate the 50th birthday of Sant'Agata's most famous export, Volkswagen Group Design Director Walter de Silva led a team in the creation of the wild Lamborghini Egoista concept. "I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself," said de Silva at its unveiling. "I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head." This single-seat, V10-powered sportscar – with Alessandro Dambrisio responsible for its exterior design and Stefan Sielaff its interior – is an extreme interpretation of the faceted aesthetic introduced by the 2007 Reventón and last seen on the Veneno shown earlier this year at the Geneva motor show.

Cadillac CUE infotainment system to arrive in 2012

Wed, 12 Oct 2011

Cadillac has lagged the industry in infotainment, but that will change next year. While Ford has touted MyFord Touch, and the imports various infotainment systems, General Motors spent the past 30 months developing CUE, short for Cadillac User Experience. The infotainment system's simplicity might remind users of an iPod Touch screen.
