Ironman Stewart retires, sells all

Fri, 27 Aug 2010

The off-road racing accomplishments of Ivan "Ironman" Stewart might never be matched: 82 major wins in desert racing, 17 of them in the crash-and-bang Mickey Thompson stadium series, three Baja 1000s and others too numerous to squeeze in here over a career that spanned 30 years. The thing that really sets him apart is that, while competitors shared driving duties over the long desert courses, Stewart did the vast majority of them alone, with no relief drivers--just him and the dirty, dusty desert. Although you do have to remember that is a production number over a forty year period. Still, long time or not it’s a milestone for the first proper luxury SUV to achieve, and in its fortieth year of production just to make the maths nice and easy – 25,000 a year.

Toyota adds i-Road to urban mobility trials

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

TOYOTA has added its futuristic i-Road concept to its “Ha:mo” urban transport trials. The Ha:mo (Harmonious Mobility network) trials are an attempt to develop a sophisticated, integrated transport system for cities, making use of electric vehicles wherever possible but with the key emphasis on encouraging travellers to use the ‘most appropriate’ means of transport at all times.
